Opening Roundtable

(I’m typing this in my coat, having come back from a 3/4 mile walk with the dog and getting ready to head up to work in Dayton.)

It looks like we’re set for another great turnout tomorrow’s New Media Cincinnati event at The Pub!  Here are some more things to consider as you prepare for the event this weekend.

  • If you have signed up and now find that you’re not able to come, please let me know via e-mail (daniel at newmediacincinnati dot com).  I will be contacting The Pub today to give them an updated headcount.  They have said they will provide us with more servers this time around, which should help.
  • I am compiling a list of announcements to be made, specifically to make the group aware of other upcoming social media events local to our area.  I’m already aware of some, but if you have something to be added, please e-mail me with the details by 5 PM Friday.
  • You may want to bring a pen and some paper to take notes.
  • Remember, you’re encouraged to take pictures, tweet, blog, record audio and video of the event and share on the internet. You are the best PR that we have.
  • Saturday’s event is licensed under Creative Commons, and everyone who comes understands that his or her image may be captured and shared on the internet for non-commercial use.
    • Official Twitter hashtag: #newmediacincy
    • Official tag, not otherwise noted: newmediacincy

What to expect from the New Media Roundtable

I strongly encourage you to think about where you sit.  If you’ve been to an event before, consider sitting with someone you don’t already know so that you can get to know him or her. If this is your first time coming to an event, then you can sit with anyone :) . To help make this event more “social” and give you more opportunity to connect with others, we’re doing some “roundtable” discussions.

We have four topics to discuss:

  • Successful ways to promote your blog, podcast, website, etc.
  • When social media is right for you and/or your project
  • Strategies for dealing with the flood of content that is available on the web
  • Successful ways of using new and social media tools to get work

Each table will first pick a spokesperson and then will discuss each topic for about 5 minutes. After the table discussion, each spokesperson will have an opportunity to report the findings for his or her table to the rest of the group.

Depending on the group size and other dynamics, I may change this up.
