A huge part of the strength of the community we’ve developed over the past three years through the Second Saturday events comes from individual participation. As each person shares about the community online and in-person, the wider the reach the community has. We have this blurb that people get to read when they register that says:

Unless otherwise specified, New Media Cincinnati events and content therein are licensed under Creative Commons to promote the sharing and distribution of new media content.

In other words, please

• take pictures and add them to the Flickr group and elsewhere,
• record audio and video,
• blog,
• tweet,
• record audio and video,
• live-stream, and
• otherwise create and share content to document and promote this event on the internet

And that’s what happens. We update Twitter and Facebook statuses and check into Foursquare during the events. We take pictures and post them to Facebook. Some of us write blog posts. Hey gang!

We’ve just sold out of all the tickets for tomorrow’s event. I know we’re all looking forward to getting together at The Pub tomorrow. We’ve just sold out the event!

I encourage you to check out the event page to see the list of who’s all coming; there are a number of you will be there for the first time tomorrow. We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Some things to keep in mind:

I know we’re looking forward to hearing what he has to say about how the tax changes in 2009 affect us as employees and business owners in the coming year.

Still in the afterglow from the last New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday we had this afternoon, but I thought it would be useful to share the recorded UStream video.

In this discussion, I asked the group, “How has your involvement in this space changed you during 2009?” I also took an informal poll to show the group’s new involvement in social media.

New Media Cincinnati 11/14/09

Thanks to the generosity of this group, over four families in the Cincinnati area will be receiving food for an entire week. Thank you again for all of your donations!

Summertime. What makes people decide to come out on a Saturday afternoon to spend time with others at a social media networking event? Well, the networking, of course.  And hopefully some learning, too.

The theme for the July 2009 New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday was “What I Learned at Podcamp Ohio 2.”  Many in the local community went to Podcamp Ohio 2 on June 20, 2009 at The Ohio State University. Many were not able to make it, so it seemed like a great idea to let those who went share some of the things they learned.

The video below (25:02) comes from the UStream channel and was recorded using a webcam and webcam mic. (Be sure to watch for the picture pose from yours truly.)

Thanks to everyone who came to the July 2009 Second Saturday event and especially to those who got up and shared what they learned.

The next New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday will be on Saturday, August 8, 2009.  Also, there will be a planning call to discuss this event and the August event – and hopefully play some local music – on Thursday, July 30, 2009.  More details in the coming weeks.
