July 2009 Second Saturday Review

• It was great to hear people share their experiences from Podcamp Ohio 2
• Side conversations really got in the way from others hearing the speaker, not only in the room but also on UStream
• The size of the group and the acoustics in the room mean that
  • Side conversations need to be taken away from the main discussion
  • We need a way to amplify whoever is speaking.
• Meeting in a bar works well up to a certain point for structured discussions. For longer structured discussions, a conference room might be better.

August 2009 Second Saturday Format

• Remember the “Scenes from a Hat” segments on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” (video below shows an example)
  • Several short questions submitted as you arrive
  • Could be specific or general
  • Anyone could offer thoughts – about 1 minute apiece

Summertime. What makes people decide to come out on a Saturday afternoon to spend time with others at a social media networking event? Well, the networking, of course.  And hopefully some learning, too.

The theme for the July 2009 New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday was “What I Learned at Podcamp Ohio 2.”  Many in the local community went to Podcamp Ohio 2 on June 20, 2009 at The Ohio State University. Many were not able to make it, so it seemed like a great idea to let those who went share some of the things they learned.

The video below (25:02) comes from the UStream channel and was recorded using a webcam and webcam mic. (Be sure to watch for the picture pose from yours truly.)

Thanks to everyone who came to the July 2009 Second Saturday event and especially to those who got up and shared what they learned.

The next New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday will be on Saturday, August 8, 2009.  Also, there will be a planning call to discuss this event and the August event – and hopefully play some local music – on Thursday, July 30, 2009.  More details in the coming weeks.

June 2009 Second Saturday Review

• 45 people attended
• Questions format made things lively and really grabbed everyone’s attention
• Having wireless mic and webcam for UStream worked out well
• We want some way to field questions from the UStream audience for this format
• Having people take pictures, live tweet, record audio and video works well
• Everyone enjoys the pix, etc, posted to Facebook and Flickr
• The community wants more blog posts of the events

July 2009 Second Saturday Format

• Since Podcamp Ohio 2 was a couple weeks ago, we will have people share 1 or 2 of their biggest takeaways.
• It’s been suggested that we organize Podcamp Cincinnati in late September 2010 – check out the rules for Podcamp
