A huge part of the strength of the community we’ve developed over the past three years through the Second Saturday events comes from individual participation. As each person shares about the community online and in-person, the wider the reach the community has. We have this blurb that people get to read when they register that says:

Unless otherwise specified, New Media Cincinnati events and content therein are licensed under Creative Commons to promote the sharing and distribution of new media content.

In other words, please

take pictures and add them to the Flickr group and elsewhere,

record audio and video,

blog,

tweet,

record audio and video,

live-stream, and

otherwise create and share content to document and promote this event on the internet

And that’s what happens. We update Twitter and Facebook statuses and check into Foursquare during the events. We take pictures and post them to Facebook. Some of us write blog posts. Here are some pictures that Vickie Sceifers and Christiaan Todd have published from last week’s Second Saturday event: Naked On The Web!
Last week we spent some time chatting about the upcoming New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday, which will be on February 13, 2010. Direct download (mp3, 57:27, 51.7 MB). Many thanks to all who participated live on the call, whether you were able to dial in or not.
Hey gang!

We’ve just sold out of all the tickets for tomorrow’s event. I know we’re all looking forward to getting together at The Pub tomorrow. We’ve just sold out the event!

I encourage you to check out the event page to see the list of who’s all coming; there are a number of you will be there for the first time tomorrow. We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Some things to keep in mind:

Special thanks again to The Pub for letting us use their patio, and to Chad Middleton from Outerwoven (http://twitter.com/outerwoven) for sponsoring the event. I know we’re looking forward to hearing what he has to say about how the tax changes in 2009 affect us as employees and business owners in the coming year.

The Bengals-Jets playoff game will be happening around the time of our meeting. That may mean that parking spaces in the Pub’s lot could be taken up. I encourage you to use the parking garage across from The Pub – it’s free, too.

My friend Bernie Warren (http://twitter.com/berniewarren) will be helping out with name tags. I’ll have blank tags and markers for you to write your name and, if you’d like, something you’re looking forward to in the New Year. Thanks for your help in advance, Bernie!

You are encouraged to bring your cameras, mobile devices, laptops, etc. and create content during the event about the event.

It looks like we’re going to be able to stream the event to the internet via UStream again. Thank you again to Don (http://twitter.com/drsceifers) and Vickie Sceifers (http://twitter.com/editvdo) for all your work in getting this done!

If you haven’t already become a fan of New Media Cincinnati on Facebook, I encourage you to do so: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cincinnati-OH/New-Media-Cincinnati/77571459981

Background and History of New Media Cincinnati
New Media Cincinnati began in October 2007 with a couple handfuls of people connected through Twitter and other social media. Many were podcasters and bloggers.
The next New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday will be the tw0-year anniversary for the group!
Over the past two years, the group has grown into a welcoming environment for others curious and interested in new and social media, as well as a time for people to learn new things about social media technologies.
Types of structured discussions we've had in the past several months: social tagging, new media roundtables, Jolts, featured speakers, unconference, questions from a hat, iRiver introductions, etc.
We have been able to "curate" and elevate the experience others have had from the event through the use of things like
live-tweeting with the #newmediacincy hashtag on Twitter
taking pictures and posting them online to Flickr and elsewhere
	using UStream.tv to provide video
individuals blogging about their experiences from events
	recorded audio podcasts
September 2009 Second Saturday Review
The topic for the structured discussion was "Colleagues or Competitors?" Catch the recap with video from last month's event.
People come to events like this to meet others and build relationships. Business gets done outside of the group and is based on the relationships individuals have made themselves.
