As we approach the end of another season of New Media Cincinnati this week, we’ll be reflecting back on what has happened this past year and how we’ve changed through our involvement in this space. As mentioned previously, this year we’re giving away New Media Cincinnati Digital Awards to recognize and encourage those who have done great work, not only in our community but also in the Greater Cincinnati area.

We put out the call for nominations, and you responded. The complete list of the 2010 New Media Cincinnati Digital Award Nominees is as follows:

NMC Digital Native Award

Exemplary dedication to the practice and promotion of digital literacy and community building in the Greater Cincinnati area over the past year.

Kevin emailed, upon being notified that he’d been nominated, asking that he be removed from the list of nominees in order that others may receive recognition. While extremely honored by the votes and nomination, he wants to shine a broader light on the community, since there are so many people doing such great work.

The New Media Cincinnati Steering Committee accepts his reasoning, since it’s the reason we created the award in the first place.

NMC Digital Giving First Award

Outstanding support toward members and potential members of the New Media Cincinnati community by sharing expertise and raising awareness through education and example both within meetings and during after-hours over the past year.

A couple weeks ago we put out the call for nominations for the New Media Cincinnati Digital Awards. You still have time to get your nominations in! We’re accepting nominations until Wednesday, November 5, 2010 at 5 PM Eastern time. Email daniel at newmediacincinnati dot com. UPDATE: Nominations are now closed. I received one additional nomination, for Kevin Dugan, which I’ve included below. Voting is now open – register here.

And he is always on his Droid and uses other tools to practice what he knows… And he generously shares his knowledge with others through networking, personal contacts and his blog. Mike has become known around the city as someone who not only knows social media; but actually practices it.

Christian Sheehy

• “I am nominating Christian Sheehy for the Digital Native Award. Christian is the manager of the TechCenter in the main public library downtown. Since he was hired into the position, he increased the quantity and quality of free classes, enabled TechCenter staff to develop new classes, and has taught countless people skills from using a mouse to connecting with people over LinkedIn.

Kevin is the tireless face that is pushing the message about the great things that are happening in Cincinnati; whether it’s P&G’s Man of the House Blog, The Brandery, or United Way’s social media campaign to raise awareness and donations. His efforts are contributing to Cincinnati’s development as a digital hub. Kevin volunteers his time and expertise as a speaker at many local events/conferences like SummitUp. He is the real deal talking about how the rubber in social media meets the road and makes an impact on business results.

He is the go to guy when it comes to techy stuff.  He is always sharing apps for my phone or computer that make life simpler and fun.  He analyzes and knows the best tools to get the job done.  He has been very active on LinkedIn, FB,Twitter, YouTube, his company’s blog, and our NMC group.  He loves to take pics to promote the NMC group.  He is always giving advice on forums, suggesting phones to use, processes to follow. People are always calling, DMing, posting, and asking how to do “this is or that” when it comes to communicating through New Media – and he loves to share the cool tools he knows.  I’m always amazed at the information he knows.  He just gets it and he doesn’t mind helping others.  Maybe one day I can convince him to start a blog sharing the cool tools and tips he knows (actually Michelle Beckham suggested this recently and I think it is a grand idea).”

• “Crystal Thies was the first person I thought of here. She is so willing to share her knowledge, and I know her help has had an impact on many members of NMC, and the greater community as well.”

New Media Cincinnati logo

New Media Cincinnati began in October 2007 as a simple meetup group of people in the Cincinnati, Dayton, and Northern Kentucky areas who were passionate about new and social media technologies like blogging, podcasting, Twitter, etc.

The group consists of people who are using new and social media for a living, but also includes people who are simply involved as a hobby.  Anyone interested in learning more about these technologies and in connecting with others is welcome to attend.  New Media Cincinnati has become, as one attendee remarked, “the premiere social networking event in the Greater Cincinnati area.”

People who come to New Media Cincinnati Second Saturdays

• make and foster business and personal connections with at least one other person,
• have face-to-face time with social media connections made online,
• learn from one another about social media technologies as we share best practices and other tips
• have the chance to talk about their own online presence
• have opportunities to share something they know with the rest of the group
• partake of food and drink and in general have a great time!

Connecting at New Media Cincinnati Second Saturdays has led to new business and employment for some.
