It’s time for another New Media Cincinnati conference call!

Background

Putting together a New Media Cincinnati event each month takes up a lot of time. People come wanting to have a good time and meet people they’ve made connections with online. Those who attend often expect for there to be some sort of structured discussion – a topic or theme.

I decided some months ago that the New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday event will be a free (no admission), community-run event. In the beginning, I was able to plan, organize, run, and do the followup for the event. Not so anymore.

Conference calls

In May 2009 I started conducting these conference calls for anyone in the community who wanted to participate. These calls had two main purposes:

Provide feedback on the previous month’s event

Set expectations and discuss the upcoming event

As the group has matured, I find I’m relying more and more on help from the community to make this event happen each month.

Details

When: Thursday, June 24, 2010 8-9 PM EDT

http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/49025

TalkShoe has a web client and downloadable software to text chat with others who are also on the call. Note that the web client does not work well in Google Chrome.

Calling instructions:

Dial: (724) 444-7444

Enter: 49025 # (Call ID)

Enter: 1 # (unless you already have a TalkShoe account associated with your phone)

Possible items for discussion:

New Media Cincinnati in Northern Kentucky at Lazer Kraze this past month (seen this video?)

Podcamp Ohio/WordCamp Columbus (did you go?)

Venue change (we’re meeting at Molly Malone’s in Covington)

Steering Committee (ooh)

Catch you on Thursday night!

This Thursday night, 8 PM – 9 PM EDT, at TalkShoe. No music, no filler. Just a nice community chat.

If you’re interested in helping make an April Second Saturday event happen, this is your time to show up. Many of you have expressed some ideas on what can be done. This is the time I have available to discuss.

As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, this event will be community-run from now on. You get to decide what happens. I’m taking a more advisory role for this event, based on some strong feedback I’ve received.

Phone call details:

When: Thursday, March 31 April 1, 2010, 8-9 PM EDT

Phone number: 724-444-7444 call ID: 49025

Direct TalkShoe page: http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/49025

Audio from this call will subsequently be posted over here within 1 day at newmediacincinnati.com

No one is currently up to provide a summary blog post as to what will be discussed. I won’t be able to do that. I’m open to giving someone a blog account so that he or she (or they) can blog about what was discussed.

Spread the word!

Community Call – This Thursday Night

In case you weren’t aware, the next New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday for 2010 will be on March 13, 2010 back at The Pub at Rookwood. Tomorrow night we’re having another community planning conference call.

It’s a bit like inside baseball, or a behind-the-scenes look at how we make the Second Saturday events happen. We do this to review the previous month and help work out details related to the coming month’s event. This also gives members of the community to provide feedback.

This month’s Second Saturday topic: Privacy in Social Media

One hot button that came up from last month’s meeting, and still resounds in the social media community in general, is Privacy in Social Media. To that end, I’ve assembled a panel of members in the New Media Cincinnati community who approach their use of social media with different degrees of privacy. More on that in the coming days.

Needs: In order to make sure each of the panelists can be heard at the event, we will need some extra microphones. If anyone would like to let us borrow one of theirs, please get in touch with Don Sceifers as soon as possible.

How to join the conference call

The call will take place this Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 8 PM EST, via TalkShoe.com. If you haven’t used TalkShoe before, I encourage you to check it out. Direct link to New Media Cincinnati Community Call. In addition to calling in via phone, they have a web client that enables chat. I’ll use that to help moderate the call. The call will be recorded and posted at the New Media Cincinnati website. Here are some Step-by-Step instructions for setting up.

For those keeping score, this will be our ninth time doing this as a community.

How else to participate

As with previous months, in addition to the TalkShoe chat area, we’ll be paying attention to the Twitterstream. Should you wish to live-tweet the phone call on Thursday, we’re using the Twitter hashtag #newmediacincy. One way to help with this is via Tweetchat.com. Here is the room we’ll be using:

http://tweetchat.com/room/newmediacincy

Simply log-in with your Twitter account and you’re good to go! Alternatively, you can just use the #newmediacincy hashtag when you update Twitter.

Local Musicians! Opportunity for Exposure

Adding local music in post-production to the audio has been widely received. If you are a local musician or band interested in getting some exposure for your music, please contact me via my podcast e-mail address: daniel AT newmediacincinnati DOT com with links where I could download your music, giving me permission to play it here and on that podcast, etc. Or use the Contact page.

Final Thoughts

This is sure to be a great discussion. As I’ve said before, you all continue to inspire and encourage me. I so enjoy getting to know others who are passionate about this stuff and helping others to understand it better. Together we’re spreading the word that Cincinnati is a social media town!

Catch you online, on the phone this Thursday, and in-person on the 13th!

This will be our eighth time doing this as a community.

The purpose of this Thursday’s conference call is twofold:

Discuss/review/feedback on the January Second Saturday event

Discuss/plan the February Second Saturday event

As with previous months, we should live-tweet the phone call on Thursday, especially for those folks who are unable to make it. Here’s the Tweetchat room we’ll be using:

http://tweetchat.com/room/newmediacincy

Simply log-in with your Twitter account and you’re good to go! Alternatively, you can just use the #newmediacincy hashtag when you update Twitter.

Local Musicians! Opportunity for Exposure

Adding local music in post-production to the audio has been widely received. If you are a local musician or band interested in getting some exposure for your music, please contact me via my podcast e-mail address: daniel AT newmediacincinnati DOT com with links where I could download your music, giving me permission to play it here and on that podcast, etc. Or use the Contact page.

Final Thoughts

2010 is off to a great start! You all continue to inspire and encourage me. I so enjoy getting to know others who are passionate about this stuff and helping others to understand it better. Together we’re spreading the word that Cincinnati is a social media town!

Catch you online, on the phone this Thursday, and in-person on the 13th!

Community Call – This Thursday Night

In case you weren’t aware, the last New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday for 2009 will be on November 14, 2009. As mentioned earlier this week, we’re going to try a simulcast meetup with New Media Dayton. Please contact me if you haven’t already and want to receive an e-mail invitation, once it’s available. Registration details will also be posted here soon.

Let’s do this community planning conference call thing again. The call will take place this Thursday, November 5, 2009, at 8 PM EST, via TalkShoe.com.

This will be our seventh time doing this as a community.

The purpose of this Thursday’s conference call is twofold:

Discuss/review/feedback on the October Second Saturday event

Discuss/plan the November Second Saturday event

As with last month, we should live-tweet the phone call on Thursday, especially for those folks who are unable to make it.

If you are a local musician or band interested in getting some exposure for your music, please contact me via my podcast e-mail address: daniel AT journeyinsidemymind DOT com with links where I could download your music, giving me permission to play it here and on that podcast, etc. Alternatively, you can use the Contact page for the Journey Inside My Mind program.

Final Thoughts

We’ve had a great year, and I look forward to hearing what you’ve learned. I’m especially excited to get the simulcast going with the folks from Dayton. You all continue to inspire and encourage me. I so enjoy getting to know others who are passionate about this stuff and helping others to understand it better. Together we’re spreading the word that Cincinnati is a social media town!

Catch you online, on the phone this Thursday, and in-person on the 14th!

Over the past two years, the group has grown into a welcoming environment for others curious and interested in new and social media, as well as a time for people to learn new things about social media technologies.

Types of structured discussions we’ve had in the past several months: social tagging, new media roundtables, Jolts, featured speakers, unconference, questions from a hat, iRiver introductions, etc.

We have been able to “curate” and elevate the experience others have had from the event through the use of things like

Community Call – This Thursday Night

In case you weren’t aware, the next New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday will be on October 10, 2009. Please contact me if you haven’t already and want to receive an e-mail invitation, once it’s available. Registration details will also be posted here soon.

Let’s do this community planning conference call thing again. The call will take place this Thursday, October 1, 2009, at 8 PM EDT, via TalkShoe.com.

This will be our sixth time doing this as a community.

The purpose of this Thursday’s conference call is twofold:

Discuss/review/feedback on the September Second Saturday event: Colleagues or Competitors?

Discuss/plan the October Second Saturday event

As with last month, we should live-tweet the phone call on Thursday, especially for those folks who are unable to make it.

I love this community. you all continue to inspire and encourage me. I so enjoy getting to know others who are passionate about this stuff and helping others to understand it better. Together we’re spreading the word that Cincinnati is a social media town!

Catch you online, on the phone this Thursday, and in-person on the 10th!
