Community Call – This Thursday Night

In case you weren’t aware, the next New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday for 2010 will be on March 13, 2010 back at The Pub at Rookwood. Tomorrow night we’re having another community planning conference call.

It’s a bit like inside baseball, or a behind-the-scenes look at how we make the Second Saturday events happen. We do this to review the previous month and help work out details related to the coming month’s event. This also gives members of the community to provide feedback.

This month’s Second Saturday topic: Privacy in Social Media

One hot button that came up from last month’s meeting, and still resounds in the social media community in general, is Privacy in Social Media.  To that end, I’ve assembled a panel of members in the New Media Cincinnati community who approach their use of social media with different degrees of privacy. More on that in the coming days.

Needs: In order to make sure each of the panelists can be heard at the event, we will need some extra microphones. If anyone would like to let us borrow one of theirs, please get in touch with Don Sceifers as soon as possible.

How to join the conference call

The call will take place this Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 8 PM EST, via TalkShoe.com. If you haven’t used TalkShoe before, I encourage you to check it out. Direct link to New Media Cincinnati Community Call.  In addition to calling in via phone, they have a web client that enables  chat.  I’ll use that to help moderate the call.  The call will be recorded and posted at the New Media Cincinnati website.  Here are some Step-by-Step instructions for setting up.

For those keeping score, this will be our ninth time doing this as a community.

How else to participate

As with previous months, in addition to the TalkShoe chat area, we’ll be paying attention to the Twitterstream. Should you wish to live-tweet the phone call on Thursday, we’re using the Twitter hashtag #newmediacincy.  One way to help with this is via Tweetchat.com. Here is the room we’ll be using:

Simply log-in with your Twitter account and you’re good to go! Alternatively, you can just use the #newmediacincy hashtag when you update Twitter.

Local Musicians! Opportunity for Exposure

Adding local music in post-production to the audio has been widely received. If you are a local musician or band interested in getting some exposure for your music, please contact me via my podcast e-mail address: daniel AT newmediacincinnati DOT com with links where I could download your music, giving me permission to play it here and on that podcast, etc. Or use the Contact page.

Final Thoughts

This is sure to be a great discussion.  As I’ve said before, you all continue to inspire and encourage me. I so enjoy getting to know others who are passionate about this stuff and helping others to understand it better.  Together we’re spreading the word that Cincinnati is a social media town!

Catch you online, on the phone this Thursday, and in-person on the 13th!
