New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday – 3 Days Away
I am excited that this month’s New Media Cincinnati Second Saturday is only 3 days away. Maybe it’s because I’ll be seeing a lot of my online Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton social media friends face-to-face again. Maybe it’s that we’re trying out this “unconference” idea. The more I think about it, it’s both.
Community Call – Tomorrow Night
Instead of going into the event cold, I think it’s a good idea to have a community chat beforehand, to talk about the group, work out some logistics, and so forth. To that end, we’re having a New Media Cincinnati Planning Conference Call tomorrow night, May 7, 2009, fro 8-9 PM. I’m actually hoping to get done at 8:45 so that I can watch the 100th episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Anyone with me?
The call will take place via TalkShoe.com. If you haven’t used TalkShoe before, I encourage you to check it out. Direct link to New Media Cincinnati Community Call. In addition to calling in via phone, they have a web client that enables you to use your microphone and headphones, with chat enabled. I’ll probably use that to help moderate the call. The call will be recorded and posted at the New Media Cincinnati website. UPDATE: Here are some Step-by-Step instructions for setting up.
Since this is our first time doing this as a community, I expect it to be somewhat rough. Even so, the main objectives for this call are as follows:
- Talk about the event on Saturday and iron out some of the logistics
- General group discussion – what are we doing great? How can we be better? What will it take for us to get there? How might you be able to help?
That’s a lot to cover in about 45 minutes. If time permits, we could also talk about some of the other social media groups in the area, or we could reserve this for another time. I’m not committing yet that we’ll be doing this ongoing. Maybe someone else in the community will be willing to take the reins of hosting and producing this on a regular basis. I just see a need in our community to have this discussion beforehand.
Local Musicians! Opportunity for Exposure
Another thing I’d like to add to this is some local music in post-production to the audio from this call. A couple of artists have already given me permission to play their stuff, and I may use that for tomorrow.
If you are a local musician or band interested in getting some exposure for your music, please contact me via my podcast e-mail address: daniel AT journeyinsidemymind DOT com with links where I could download your music, giving me permission to play it here and on that podcast, etc.
Final Thoughts
I love this community. I so enjoy getting to know others who are passionate about this stuff and helping others to understand it better. Together we’re spreading the word that Cincinnati is a social media town!
Catch you online, on the phone tomorrow, and in-person on Saturday!
UPDATE: We should live-tweet the phone call tomorrow night, especially for those folks who are unable to make it. Here’s the Tweetchat room we’ll be using: http://tweetchat.com/room/newmediacincy
